What Grinds My Gears. Volume 1 Issue #3

Gutless, sore losing hockey fans. These people just make me steam, you know the ones, the fans that have so much to say about their team and their team is good all the time and completely untouchable, until they lose. Then comes the side of the fan that won't show his face, hangs his head in shame and hopes that he doesn't have to endure any taunting. Unfortunately the taunting has to be expected, the more pride, the bigger the fall. These are the people that will either try their hardest to avoid any opposing fans after a loss because they cant handle it, or just flat out deny that their team was outplayed. Us UNB faithfuls had to endure this last night. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not cutting down all STU fans, I haven't met them all, but this guy was the loudest and most obnoxious guy I've met to date. His team would reign supreme and losing was not an option to him. Now I don't mind loud obnoxious fans, I can be one, but its when you can't face the facts when your team starts losing. This STU fan had so much to say about his Tommies and no one could shut him up, until UNB scored. Once the first goal came he didn't have the guts to even acknowledge us for a good 30 minutes of play. Then the second goal, shamed once more, and a third, still, a solid silence came from him. Then, near the end of the game, loud returned to him but in a less productive way. He got whiney and moaned about it a little and pretty much all but cried. Not to say it was completely without provocation. I'll say we may have been a little more obnoxious than we needed to be and I'll be the first to admit it, but my point is solid. The fans that talk the talk, need to learn to walk the walk. If you talk em up when they play good, you have to be able to take their struggle in stride. If not, just keep your trap shut and watch the game.

The Analysis Volume 1 Issue #2 *BATTLE OF THE HILL SPECIAL EDITION 1*

STU vs. UNB, The Battle of the Hill. Who will reign supreme on this night? The final answer, UNB by a score of 3-0. The Game was well played in the first period, STU seemed to have the advantage for the better part of the period. UNB's passing was absolutely toxic and STU caught them everytime. To the benefit of the V-Reds, Ouzaz kept them in it with some stellar saves. UNB managed to squeak out of period 1 ahead by a goal. Then came the second when UNB up and decided it was time to play some serious hockey. There was no massive offensive explosion but they killed a long 5-3 penalty and many other penalties rendering STU's powerplay completely useless. UNB played an excellent shorthanded game on this night. They arrived at a score of 2-0 by the end of the second despite phenomenal efforts between the STU goalposts. The third was when the game just ran away from the Tommies, the V-Reds had managed to wear this power house team down to the rims and just walked all over them in the third period. With another single goal, UNB tied this one up in a pretty little box in the third. The V-Reds played a worthy game and as a result handed the Tommies their first loss in the past 8 games and have become the only team to shut STU out this season. As good as it was to see STU humbled at the hands of UNB, I still must say that the whole game was officiated in a rather poor manner. There were calls missed on both sides, penalties that should have been called and weren't. Calls were made on both sides when the whole crowd was left scratching their heads and wondering where the penalty was. It was pure Mick Magough style officiating on a minor league level. Fortunately UNB was able to walk off the bad calls a little better than STU, played a better game, and ultimately, came out on top. The Battle of The Hill will return again this season, in the end who will be crowned King of the Hill? We will have to wait and see. It should be interesting.

YES - 83%

Yes, we failed at guessing yet another poll, but we were all right until that viscous Saturday night when Darrell racked up 15 points, on top of Christian who only made 10. The Hockey News ( Tuesday Nov.21.06 ) # 10

THE HOCKEY NEWS
Well, This issue of the hockey news was pretty good if you like the new shootout addition to the NHL. In this issue it tells you what the players logic is to score the big goal, and the logic that the goalie uses to make the final save of the game and win an "Intense Shootout". This magazine explains and shows the satistics of who scores the most goals by nationality, and where the puck is often aimed for.

NHL Inside Locker Room Names

I though this was pretty cool stuff, so I decided I would be nice and show it you guys! ... This post is about something that they call a Anagram. An anagram is just simply taking an NHL players name and switch it all around using all the letters in their name. Here are a few made by the NHL players in the locker room.

Christopher Higgins - 'The Crop Is Rising High'
Sidney Crosby- 'Nerdy Ice Boss'
Eric Lindros- 'Rile Nordics
Anson Carter- 'Corner Satan'
Martin Straka- 'Smart At A Rink'
Dominik Hasek - 'OK, Hide In Mask'

Now that you know what this is, can you make up names for other hockey players using all the letters in their names?

FINAL THOUGHT - Who Is 'Me Idiot'? If you know, make the comment.

HINT: EVERYONE KNOWS WHO THIS FORMER HOCKEY PLAYER WAS!

What Grinds My Gears. Volume 1 Issue #2 *SPECIAL EDITION*

The Date: November 12, 2007.The game: UdeM Vs. UNB. The officials: Retarted.
This game really, really made my gears grind, the officiating was absolutely terrible, it is rivaled only by that of Mick Magough. The teams both came out on a tear and played with excellent speed and agility, right out of the gate it was proving to be a crowd pleaser win or lose. Low and behold the Referee's wouldn't have it. Calls all over the place, out of 15 I'd say that 2 were legitimate. Then of course, out of 30 missed calls they may have made 5 good ones. (UNB+Check from behind=Game misconduct)*(UdeM+Check from behind=No call)= Referee's getting a lift home with UdeM. This game was called so incredibly one sided it would make Bob Gainey swear like a sailor. Both teams played phenomenally and the goaltending was unheard of from a neutral view I'd say that UNB outplayed UdeM for the majority of the game but when you play half the game shorthanded because of missed calls or penalties that don't really exist, it really kills momentum and makes it near impossible to pull a win out. This is not the only time this has happened either, the officiating has been absolutely terrible in the past few UNB home games, I would personally request that certain referees be removed from the league and be bumped down to the little leagues. It is games like those that make me an angry and violent person, I believe that those refs need a very hard kick in the jaw to smarten them up. The game ended in a UdeM victory and both the game winner and the security goal were scored shortly after a very obvious penalty by UdeM that the officials just oddly decided not to call. Myself and every other UNB fan in the house was absolutely livid, ticked beyond all reasonable mention. The game was a disgrace to the sport of hockey and completely botched. I would go as far as seeing it fit to have all three officials removed permanently from CIS league hockey. I can honestly say that that was the worst hockey game I have ever witnessed all due to the officiating. I am severely disappointed and deeply saddened by this abysmal display of clownish, foolish refereeing

Sorry, but it's bugging me

What to do with Crosby and Malkin?
Keep them off the same line, spread talent, spread
Put them back together!! At least they won some games!
Send Malkin back to Russia
It's a win/lose situation

What Grinds My Gears. Volume 1 Issue #1

Every week I will answer that question anew and bring to your attention something in the hockey world that really grinds my gears, ticks me off, makes me steam. This week I have to say the thing that ground my gears was the disallowed goal in the Phoenix-Dallas game. The break away was clean, the deke phenomenal, the shot excellent, the goalie beat, and the goal......Called back? The whole play was completely clean Sanderson had Turco beat 9 ways from Tuesday and everyone agreed, it was a goal...A pretty one to boot. But wait!! The replay was shown up on the jumbotron and something caught the eye of Dallas' coach. That puck didn't enter the net, it didn't cross the line, it drilled the crossbar...Without as much as a *tink* *clink* or *ding*. Impossible, right, he's making this up...That's what I thought. But when I saw the replay it did indeed hit the crossbar and was obviously not a goal. My problem is this: The "goal" was not contested until well after it was "scored" and everyone, officials, players, fans, coaches, and goalies alike, were sure that that puck went in. Therefore, the puck should have been dropped promptly and it wasn't, I want to know why. Had it been dropped when it was supposed to have been dropped, the goal would have stood, yes it would have been a terrible mistake on the part of the referee, but none the less it should have stood. Everyone would have cried for a little while but we all would have gotten over it. This is why I hate video goal judging. If the officials on the ice agree that it is a legitimate, legal goal, then let their word stand, don't bring in video replays to try and prove them wrong because one loudmouth decided to whine about it. I say, its the Ref's word or bust, if they make a mistake...Suck it up, princess.

The Analysis Volume 1 Issue #1

Teams: Montreal Vs. Toronto; Score: 5-1 in favor of the Leafs; Series: 2-1(of 8) for Toronto
Tonight again, proves a sad sad truth in Montreal, they never leave you guessing why they lost; they make it just as obvious as Crosby's talent. Tonight it was a classic problem, not that both teams didn't play well, when at even strength Montreal and Toronto both played worthy games, dare I say that the Habs had the majority of the "good times" during even strength play. Alas, the problem was this: Those rough and tumble Montrealers just couldn't keep their sticks, or attitudes, to themselves. This put them in a pile of penalty trouble and left them shorthanded for the majority of the second period and a good chunk of the first. 2 five on three powerplays for the leafs lead to two powerplay goals. Some excellent even strength play, some shaky goaltending by David Aebischer, and some defensive mistakes by the habs lead to the other three goals. Not to say I'm blaming this game on the goalie, but tonight just didn't seem to be his night, it wasn't there, he wasn't getting the help he needed and he got frustrated, things just weren't clicking for Dave tonight. So they'll take the loss in stride and use it as an educational opportunity. Sheldon Sourray would say the very same, you can't win games when you hang out in the box.

Crosby and Malkin say Good-Bye

Not only do they say good-bye to eachother, from being on each others line, but they say good-bye to any chance of making the play-offs, winning games, and getting any more points. Crosby is saying good-bye to starting lineup. Malkin is saying good-bye to ever having a streak of a goal every game, ever again. Why?? Because Apparently Michel Therrien doesn't like winning. Apparently, he must miss the losing feeling of last year. Well I'm sorry But I don't! I was happy with the winning streak we had going! And now what do we come back to a 5 game winning streak? A 5 game losing streak! I know some people don't understand patterns, but when you win 5 games with two guys on the same line, YOU DON'T MESS THAT UP! And even if for one game you wanted to test it, once you lose that game and then the next one, obviously, one corse of action is better! And I know I may just be a 15 year old girl and you are a 42 year old guy with 14 years of head coaching behind you, but I'm smart enough to recognize patterns, and I know you're not stupid. So, unless you're goal is to come in last or next to last AGAIN , then seriously: Crosby+Malkin= Success.

*Shakes Head*

Tucker Hits Sami Kapanen

This was most likely the HARDEST and most BRULTALIST hits in the playoffs of 2002. It was the Leafs vs Flyers game 7, in OT, and just a few moments after the hit, Jeremy Roenik put away the Leafs and kicked them out of yet another playoffs.

As A Team

I like that little comment you left Christian and it inspired my "column" more like.. weekly post, or whenever I want to post, at least once a week! Anyway, I'm just throwing out some ideas for mine not sure yet but I think I will do one of the teams the group of us like (Pittsburgh, Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Ottawa or another team of my choice, or possibly by popular demand)

So, thats all about that, and all I have to say now is Go Penguins!! Just play nicely, without getting penalties and you'll be fine. Power Play for the Sharks will not be good for us!!!

Go Crosby! Woot :)

UNB Destroys Tigers!

VREDS {VS} TIGERS

Tonight UNB gave the Dalhousie Tigers a night that they will want to forget, and forget fast. The Reds outshot the Tigers 42-15 so that just gives you a little clue to how the game was played. UNB scored 20 seconds into the game as they left the 1st period up 3-2. After 2, they were up 6-2. And the game finished off 8-2 for the final. The Reds next game is tomorrow night as the Reds will have game 2 of their weekend, against the STFX X-Men.
